Distinguished and Famous people from Gippsland Lakes Region

🌾 Uncle Albert Mullett

Uncle Albert Mullett’s life connected Lake Tyers with Bairnsdale and the wider Gippsland Lakes district. The Gunai Elder combined a working life in farming and timber with sustained efforts to teach Aboriginal culture. His voluntary school teaching in Bairnsdale began in 1980, in the unpromising surroundings of a bike shed, before his educational influence expanded. He also contributed to cultural heritage and land-rights work. Victoria recognised his service through its Aboriginal Honour Roll in 2013. His legacy rests in knowledge shared with younger generations and in practical community advocacy.
